Simple recorder notes songs5/6/2023 It is the most prominent duct flute in the western classical tradition. Researching a bit we can find its definition:Ī Recorder can be distinguished from other duct flutes by the presence of a thumb-hole for the upper hand and seven finger-holes: three for the upper hand and four for the lower. There have been other parts of recorders in different areas, and it is believed that a pretty similar version of the instrument we know today could have existed earlier. The earliest medieval recorder discovered was found in the Netherlands, near the town of Dordrecht. We find them in almost any musical tradition around the globe. At that time it was no more than tubes from plants or fruit trees with a few holes. The earliest flutes date from the Neolithic.
